How to Submit Training Proposals
What We Are Looking For
- Classes that address issues, challenges, best practices or innovations in the corrections field.
- Presenters that present practical and evidence-based information that exhibits relevance to the corrections field.

Summer Training: June 13, 2024
Proposal deadline: March 1, 2024
Training Location: Liberty Mountain Conference Center; Lynchburg, VAFall Conference Sessions: September 10-11, 2024
Proposal deadline: May 12, 2024
Conference Location: The Inn at Virginia Tech; Blacksburg, VA
Presentation Submission Instructions
Class Proposals must be sent by the deadline for review and approval. Class proposals must include:
- Class Title
- Class Outline: detailing what will be addressed
- 3-4 Learning Objectives
- List of speakers of (3) Speakers maximum (1 Speaker must be a practitioner in the field)
Speaker Biography
- Speaker’s Name, Current Title; Place of Employment
- Synopsis of employment history
- Description of educational background
- Other professional affiliations or awards
- Additional brief comments, and a synopsis of your qualifications as it pertains to the position
Presentation Criteria
- Duration: Proposals should outline a presentation that spans a 2-hour time frame, allowing for in-depth exploration and meaningful engagement.
- Relevance: Submissions should clearly demonstrate how the proposed presentation addresses current challenges or opportunities within the correctional system.
- Interactive Elements: We encourage presentations that include interactive elements such as case studies, group discussions, or Q&A sessions to enhance participant engagement.
- Practical Application: Presentations should offer practical insights, tools, or strategies that attendees can apply within their respective roles to employ the best practices in corrections.
Other Things to Know
- All Important deadline dates and submission resources will be sent out once the class is approved.
- All class submissions must contain the requested information to be considered for approval by the committee. Please submit the complete workshop proposal and BIOs to Christopher.hayes@wvarj.org
- PowerPoint presentations or lecture outlines must be submitted for review and approval 90 days after the approval notice is received.
- If a PowerPoint will not be used a complete Outline must be submitted for review and approval
